Lee Chesneau’s Marine Weather
Marine Weather: Level I
at the Newport International Boat Show
Saturday, September 17th - Sunday, September 18th, 8:30am - 4:00pm
This 2-day marine weather class is taught by well- known and recently
retired NOAA/NWS Ocean Prediction Center meteorologist, Lee Chesneau. The
course is designed to familiarize boaters with the basic principles of marine
weather formation and movement and how to use the information at hand to make
safe boating decisions. Students learn how to use surface pressure maps and make
observations of local weather conditions to observe frontal and non-frontal
systems. The course combines lectures and hands-on practical exercises that
include making weather observations, weather log keeping, obtaining current
weather predictions from various sources, and participating in a simulated
cruise using historical weather data obtained from the Ocean Prediction Center
Archives and actual vessel log entries.
