session followed by a demo boat ride in the afternoon. The program includes

TAKE THE WHEEL: NEW INTERACTIVE WORKSHOP AT BAY BRIDGE BOAT SHOW ON KENT ISLAND, MD
Stevensville, MD - An innovative new seminar program offers
novice boaters the chance to "Take the Wheel" at the upcoming Bay Bridge Boat
Show on April 24 and is the first time that the Bay Bridge Boat Show has
integrated an educational offering with the interactive component of boat
demonstrations. "Take the Wheel" is a day-long educational package
providing both "classroom" seminars and an introductory ride on
one of two major styles of powerboats: trawler or express cruiser.
Participants will enter the show grounds at 9 a.m., before the show opens,
for a light breakfast of coffee and bagels. Seminars will follow and lunch is
provided in an area set aside for workshop participants. In the afternoon,
each participant will take an introductory ride on one of two major styles
of powerboats: trawler or express cruiser. Kadey-Krogen Yachts and Tiara Yachts
will provide boats for the onboard session. A wine tasting and social will
wrap the day up at 5 p.m.
The workshop cost of $149 per person or $200 per couple includes:
- A 2-day regular admission boat show pass
- Morning seminars
- Afternoon on-the-water boat demo ride
- All instruction & printed materials
- Light Breakfast and Lunch
- Wine tasting social hour
The workshop is limited to 50 participants and choice of boat for the
demo rides is available on a first-come-first-served sign-up basis.

11:00 Boat Buying & Chartering

boat, plus what to know and do before you sign on any dotted lines.
12:00 Keeping It Looking New
Before you start to sand, get maintenance tips from the experts. From
waxes to varnish, here's what works, here's what doesn't. Ann Miller
has been detailing and varnishing boats for 20 years, and she's tried
everything. From products and techniques to maintenance schedules,
learn trade secrets from a pro.
1:00 Get Your Captain's License
Between the USCG requirements for sea time, physicals, applications
and examination, getting a captain's license can seem daunting. Captain
John Martino of Annapolis School of Seamanship will discuss the ins
and outs of getting your captain's license from beginning to end.
2:00 Marine Diesel Basics
Captain John Martino of Annapolis School of Seamanship will run
through the basics of marine diesel engines and troubleshooting
some common problems.
3:00 Fishing the Chesapeake Bay*
From the Susquehanna Flats to the Bay Bridge Tunnel, expert
angler and writer Chris Dollar will offer an overview of fishing
opportunities ranging from jigging and trolling to kayak fishing.
4:00 Cruising the Bay*
Take a virtual cruise around the Bay with Chesapeake Bay Magazine
editor-at-large Janie Meneely. Learn about some of the rivers less
traveled and get new insights on old favorites as well as a look
at waterfront festivals and community events.

This seminar will cover what you need to know before you leave the dock.
From required safety equipment, to registration and licensing, you will
learn how to prepare yourself and your boat for safe boating.

the components, design and maintenance of a properly balanced onboard

Collision Avoidance

USCG requirements for sea time, application and examination procedures

and serviced before heading out this spring and how to do it.

What Boat is Right for Me?
his seminar focuses on the different types of boats available and how
you can use them from fishing to daytripping, to extended cruising.
Participants will learn about different design considerations and
propulsion systems including inboard, outboard, jet drive and pod
drive systems.
